Crazy Cool Phone Book Sculptures - Recycling Inspiration

Crazy Cool Phone Book Sculptures – Recycling Inspiration: "

Does anyone really use phone books anymore? I know I haven’t in years. The moment I get them, I immediately throw them in the recycle bin. My mother is the only person I know that still uses a phone book. Everyone else I know uses the Internet to find phone numbers.

Treehugger.com featured an article about the environmental impact of phone books. It’s mind blowing the number of trees, the amount of water and other natural resources that are used to produce phone books.

Artist Alex Queral decided to recycle his old phone books in a very creative way. He carves famous people into these books with a very sharp knife, some acrylic and a whole lot of inspiration. He’s been creating about two phone book carvings each month for fourteen years. This obviously takes a lot of patience too. He says, “Nearing the end of the carving and then suddenly having it ruined by a careless cut can be pretty crushing. You have to start all over again.”

Nike’s Ballman vs. Coca-Cola’s Coke Man at the World Cup

Nike’s Ballman vs. Coca-Cola’s Coke Man at the World Cup: "

I love it when big brands try to compete and outdo each other. We all get to benefit from their best creativity and originality when that happens.

Well, of course, Nike could not be outdone by Coca-Cola, right? The gigantic red Coke Man was getting a lot of attention at the World Cup until, you guessed it, Nike created something even bigger and better to show their support of the World Cup.

Move over Coke Man, now there’s Ballman, prominently displayed in a shopping center in Johannesburg, South Africa. Hanging from the air with steel wire so it looks like it’s floating, Ballman was created from 3,000 footballs (or soccer balls, depending on where you are from). When the World Cup is over, Coke Man will be recycled and Ballman will be disassembled and the balls will be given away. Aww they are both so cute!

You've undoubtedly been following the story -- hell, maybe you've even partaking in some serious WiFi tethering. Well, the Android Police (not an actual police force) are reporting that the EVO 4G has finally been rooted, fully and completely. What's this mean? Well, for starters, enterprising individuals will soon be writing to /system from within the OS, removing Sprint's apps and flashing from custom ROMs. Pretty sweet, right? Hit up the source link to get started! But please, don't brick your phone. For real.

ForceTek XIO: the gaming controller that hurts you, not the TV (video)

ForceTek XIO: the gaming controller that hurts you, not the TV (video): "

Forget the Wiimote, PlayStation Move and Kinect; here's a controller that actually makes you feel the games. At E3 earlier this week, startup firm ForceTek was seen demoing its XIO Virtual Gaming System -- a rather fancy name for a force-feedback arm exoskeleton that 'provides a controlled resistance' to your arm and wrist movement. The rig sure looks like a great addition for action games -- imagine feeling a virtual basketball bouncing, or your virtual machine gun recoiling, or even the reaction force from a virtual punch. Want it now? Try next year, when the XIO will apparently ship at a 'competitive' price comparable to that of a guitar for Guitar Hero. See the controller in action after the break, and try not to wince.
